Brouwer Pragma® 5/20 – Palatable Tablets for Dogs

Cardiovascular Support for Dogs – ACE Inhibitor and Aldosterone Antagonist
Dual-action formula combining Benazepril and Spironolactone to support the treatment of congestive heart failure caused by valvular disease or dilated cardiomyopathy.

Product Type:

Palatable Tablets – Veterinary Prescription Medication

Presentation:

  • Box of 20 palatable, bi-grooved tablets

  • Each 1000 mg tablet contains:

    • 5 mg Benazepril Hydrochloride

    • 20 mg Spironolactone

    • Excipients q.s. 1000 mg

Key Benefits

  • Indicated for the treatment of congestive heart failure (CHF) in dogs caused by:

    • Atrioventricular valve insufficiency (mitral and/or tricuspid)

    • Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM)

  • Inhibits the Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme I (ACE I) to promote vasodilation and reduce aldosterone secretion.

  • Antagonizes aldosterone to block “aldosterone escape,” helping to prevent myocardial fibrosis and ventricular arrhythmias.

  • Dual action within the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) provides more comprehensive cardiac protection.

  • Bi-grooved palatable tablets ensure easy administration and dose flexibility.

How It Works

Pragma® 5/20 acts on the RAAS pathway at two key points:
Benazepril inhibits the ACE enzyme, promoting vasodilation and lowering blood pressure.
Spironolactone works downstream as an aldosterone antagonist, preventing the development of fibrosis and arrhythmias in the heart muscle. This dual mechanism improves circulation and cardiac function in dogs with CHF.

Feeding / Administration Guidelines

  • Administer orally as prescribed by your veterinarian.

  • May be given with or without food.

  • Typically given once daily.

  • Regular veterinary follow-up is recommended to monitor cardiac status and electrolyte levels.

Suitable For

  • Dogs diagnosed with congestive heart failure caused by valve insufficiency or dilated cardiomyopathy.

  • Dogs requiring dual-action RAAS blockade as part of a comprehensive cardiac care plan.
